GlobalWafers
Taiwan's wafer champion building US capacity
GlobalWafers is the world's #3 silicon wafer supplier and the largest outside Japan, headquartered in Taiwan. It is building a greenfield 300mm wafer fab in Sherman, Texas (backed by US CHIPS Act funding) to localize substrate supply for American fabs. Its 2020s attempt to acquire Siltronic was blocked, after which it pivoted to organic US and Asian expansion.
