Solar, Wind & Grid Storage
Cheap, fast, but intermittent — paired with storage and gas for AI loads
Solar (plus battery storage) is the fastest and often cheapest new capacity to build, and hyperscalers remain the world's largest corporate buyers of renewable PPAs to meet clean-energy pledges. But wind and solar are intermittent, which clashes with always-on datacenter loads, so they are increasingly paired with large battery storage or used as accounting offsets while firm power (gas/nuclear) runs the servers. Solar+storage is a major near-term supply lever precisely because of its short build time.
Advantage
Fastest & often cheapest new capacity to build
Limitation
Intermittent — needs storage or firming
Buyers
Hyperscalers are top corporate renewable PPA purchasers
Pairing
Increasingly co-deployed with battery storage
