Swiss AI Initiative (ETH/EPFL, Apertus)
Fully open Swiss LLM trained on the Alps supercomputer
The Swiss AI Initiative, led by ETH Zurich and EPFL on the CSCS Alps supercomputer (~10,000 Nvidia GH200), released Apertus in 2025, a fully open, transparent, multilingual LLM with published weights, data, and recipe. It is Europe's clearest example of a public-research, fully-open sovereign model and a template for compliant, auditable training.
