Jacob Coxon resigned from Anthropic on September 8, 2026, writing that neither Anthropic nor OpenAI is acting responsibly and that both are "racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives." The part that makes this more than a resignation letter: Evan Hubinger, who leads alignment science at Anthropic, replied publicly that Coxon is correct and put his own estimate of AI killing all humans above 10% within the decade. It lands while Anthropic sits in the SEC's confidential IPO review.
