Perplexity AI
AI answer engine; Sonar models + Comet browser
Perplexity is an AI-native search/answer engine that orchestrates frontier models plus its own fine-tuned Sonar models, and in 2025 launched the Comet agentic browser. It is more an application/orchestration layer than a from-scratch frontier trainer, but it fine-tunes and serves models and competes for AI search share against Google and OpenAI. It raised at an ~$18B+ valuation and made a high-profile (rebuffed) bid for Chrome.
