What it is
Moonshot AI, backed by Alibaba and Tencent, released Kimi K2 in 2025 — a ~1T-parameter open-weight MoE model that topped several agentic and coding benchmarks and became one of the most cited Chinese frontier models. Kimi is known for ultra-long context windows and aggressive open-weight releases that pressure Western closed labs. It is among the 'AI Tigers' of Chinese startups.
