Baidu's foundation model; ERNIE / Ernie Bot
Baidu builds the ERNIE (Wenxin) family, one of China's earliest large-scale foundation models, powering Ernie Bot and integrated across Baidu Search and cloud. In 2025 Baidu open-sourced ERNIE 4.5 variants and pushed its own Kunlun AI chips to reduce Nvidia dependence under export controls. It runs on Baidu AI Cloud.
