G42
UAE AI national champion; Microsoft-backed, US-aligned after divesting China ties
G42 is Abu Dhabi's flagship AI company that took a $1.5B Microsoft investment in 2024 and, as a condition of US access to advanced chips, divested Chinese holdings (including Huawei gear) and aligned with the US tech stack. It is central to the UAE's plan to build one of the world's largest AI datacenter clusters (the 5GW 'Stargate UAE' / Abu Dhabi campus) with Nvidia chips, subject to US Commerce approvals. G42 embodies the geopoliticization of AI: Gulf capital gaining frontier compute in exchange for choosing the US over China.
