The US government has ordered Anthropic to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all foreign nationals due to a national security-related export control directive. As a result, Anthropic has disabled access immediately.
Anthropic disagrees with this decision, stating that the reported issue is a narrow, non-universal jailbreak that involves minor, previously known vulnerabilities, which other leading AI models can also identify.
The company emphasizes that Fable 5 underwent extensive safety testing and employs a "defense-in-depth" security approach. They argue that if this standard were applied across the industry, it could effectively halt the deployment of new frontier AI models. Anthropic is complying with the order while actively working to restore access.
