Synopsys
#1 EDA — the software chip designers can't design AI silicon without
Synopsys is the largest electronic design automation (EDA) vendor, providing the synthesis, place-and-route, verification, and simulation software plus a huge library of silicon IP used to design essentially every advanced chip. Its tools are now infused with AI (DSO.ai) to optimize power/performance/area and shorten design cycles for complex accelerators. In 2025-2026 Synopsys closed its ~$35B acquisition of Ansys, extending into multiphysics simulation; EDA is a US-controlled chokepoint whose sale to sanctioned Chinese entities is restricted.
