Agentic Commerce and Payments

Agentic commerce is an AI agent shopping and paying on a person's behalf: the agent finds the item, builds the cart and pays, while the card network checks the agent was authorized and stayed within the buyer's limits. Checkout, cards and fraud rules all assumed a human. In 2025 OpenAI and Stripe released the Agentic Commerce Protocol and Google announced the Agent Payments Protocol. Example: ChatGPT's Instant Checkout buying an Etsy item.
