AI, Elections and Information Integrity
AI touches elections through synthetic audio, video and text that can impersonate candidates or mislead voters about how to vote, and through the doubt it casts on real recordings. In February 2024, AI and platform companies signed the AI Elections Accord in Munich, eight commitments against deceptive AI election content. Meta later reported that AI content was under 1% of the election misinformation its fact-checkers flagged in 2024.
