AI Maturity Models

An AI maturity model is a staged scale of how far an organization has moved from experimenting with AI to running it as normal work. It gives leaders a shared vocabulary for next steps. MIT CISR's model has four stages, from Experiment and Prepare to Become AI Future Ready; AWS uses Envision, Experiment, Launch and Scale. MIT CISR's 2025 survey found stage 2 firms trail industry averages on growth and profit, while stage 3 firms exceed them.
