AI for Science

AI for science means using machine learning to speed up discovery: predicting protein shapes, screening molecules, steering simulations or reading the literature. The landmark is AlphaFold, which predicts a protein's 3D structure from its sequence. The 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry went half to David Baker for protein design and half jointly to Demis Hassabis and John Jumper for AlphaFold. Its database gives researchers free predicted structures.
