Children, Teens and AI
Children and teens use AI chatbots, companions and homework tools, and rules written for earlier technology are being updated to cover them. Common Sense Media found in July 2025 that nearly three in four US teens had used AI companions and half used them regularly; Pew found 26% of teens used ChatGPT for schoolwork in 2024, double 2023. In the US, COPPA protects children under 13, and California's SB 243 (2025) sets rules for companion chatbots.
