Fuzzy Logic
Fuzzy logic handles degrees of truth, so a room can be somewhat warm rather than strictly warm or cold. Rules written in everyday terms can then drive a controller without a precise mathematical model. It has been used in appliances and industrial control since the 1980s, and it remains a useful option when expert rules exist but training data does not.
